Anthony W. Hawthorne

 Mr. Hawthorne acts exclusively as a mediator, arbitrator and referee, after more than 40 years as a trial lawyer specializing in real estate and business litigation. He has successfully mediated approximately 100 disputes including real estate contracts, actions by and against real estate brokers and agents, contractors, developers and neighbors= disputes, small business and partnership matters, and others. Mr. Hawthorne is a member of the mediation panels of the Contra Costa County (CA) Bar Association, and the (CA)First District Court of Appeal.

As an active litigator, Mr. Hawthorne was principal attorney in matters resulting in judgement for his clients or settlement in excess of $3 million, and, as defense counsel, responsible for unanimous defense verdicts, and has had a number of reported appellate decisions.

He is a graduate of Yale University (B. A.) and the University of California, Berkeley, School of Law (Boalt Hall). He is a member of the State Bar of California, and is admitted to practice before the United States District Court, Northern District of California, and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. He is a past member of the Franchise Law Committee of the Business Litigation Section of the California  Bar Association and a panelist on a California Continuing Education of the Bar program discussing the mediation of franchise disputes.
